ALL MYELO EXAMINATIONS

Prior to Appointment

1. Patient to complete lab work ordered by requesting provider/PCP (PT/PTT/INR and Platelet count and CBC) 14 days prior to appointment.

2. Patient to bring Non-SMA images related to the exam on the day of the appointment.

3. No Blood Thinners (i.e. Aspirin(ASA), Plavix, Coumadin) 7 days prior to appointment

Day of Appointment

1. Patient must have a regular breakfast and drink plenty of fluids prior to appointment. Nothing to eat or drink after 0900.

2. Patient must be accompanied by an individual to drive the patient home after the examination is complete.

3. Please inform the patient that the myelogram and post myelogram CT can take 2 to 3 hours to complete.

Failure to complete lab work and/or stop blood thinners may result in your appointment being rescheduled.

BE PREP FOR COLON CLEANSING

YOUR PROVIDER WILL GIVE YOU A PRESCRIPTION FOR MOVIPREP TO BE PICKED UP AT PHARMACY.
This exam requires a bowel evacuant preparation using MOVIPREP.
The MOVIPREP should be picked up at least 2 days prior to your exam.


Please inform the patient that the Exam can take 45 minusts to 1 hour unless Radiologist needs additional Images which may require additional time.

BREAST ULTRASOUND

No preparation is needed for these exams.

All breast ultrasound patients:

Please pick up your mammogram films and bring them with you to your appointment if they were done at a facility other than SMA or you have signed them out.

THIS IS USED FOR A COMPARISON WITH THE X-RAYS TAKEN WITH THIS LAST EXAM.

NOTE: IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT CAFFEINE MAY CAUSE BREAST TENDERNESS. IT MAY BE BENEFICIAL TO ABSTAIN FROM CAFFEINE 4-5 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS EXAM.

DEXASCAN

Please wear clothing that does not have METAL, ZIPPERS or metal BUTTONS. BRAS will need to be removed prior to exam.

NO MULTIVITAMINS, TUMS OR CALCIUM TABLETS ON THE SAME DAY PRIOR TO YOUR EXAM.

You may take all other Medications.

NO BARIUM STUDIES IN PRIOR 30 DAYS.

HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAM

IF YOU ARE STILL ON YOUR MENSTRUL CYCLE EXAM CANNOT BE DONE.

Regular Menstrual cycle:

The exam will be scheduled for 7-10 days, from the 1st day of your menstrual cycle.

Patient must be accompanied by an individual to drive the patient home after the examination is complete.

No sexual intercourse from the 1st day of your menstrual cycle until 24 hours after the exam.



Irregular or No Menstrual cycle: Complete lab work ordered by requesting provider/PCP (Pregnancy test) 2 days prior to appointment.

No sexual intercourse for 17 consecutive days, day 15 get blood drawn, schedule your exam on day 16 or 17.
Refrain from sexual intercourse from day 1 until 24 hours after the scheduled exam.

Obtain an order from your provider for a serum blood pregnancy test to be done on day 15 depending on the day of the exam (1 or 2 days prior to scheduled exam).

Exam must be done on day 16 or 17 *No sexual intercourse from day 1 until 24 hours after scheduled exam. **

MAMMOGRAPHY

DO NOT USE powder, creams, perfumes, deodorant or oils around the breast area or under the arms the day of the examination.

MAMMOGRAM films done out-of-state or at another facility other than SOUTHWEST MEDICAL ASSOCIATES, must be hand carried the day of your appointment.
If your last mammogram was digital please bring a CD in place of film.

NPO AFTER MIDNIGHT (ESOPH, UGI, SBFT)   

Nothing to eat, drink, or smoke after midnight. No breakfast until after the examination is completed.
If your Exam is scheduled after 12:00pm you may have a light, clear liquid breakfast and then nothing to eat, drink or smoke for 8 hours prior to your exam.

UGI or ESOPH exam can take 45 minusts to 1 hour unless Radiologist needs additional Images which may require additional time.

Small Bowel follow-through exams may take 4 hours or more to complete & ADVISE PT TO WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES.

OB ULTRASOUND   

Empty your bladder before beginning to drink the required fluids.

Drink 26 oz of water starting one hour before the exam and finishing 20-30 mins. before the exam.
Your bladder will fill during the ? hour before the exam.

Do not empty your bladder again until after your test.

It is of the utmost importance that your bladder be full for the test.

Eat before your appointment time, as it will make the fetus more active.

We ask that you do not bring any small children with you to the appointment, unless there is additional adult supervision with the child. No childcare is provided. Once the technical part of the ultrasound is complete, family will be permitted in the exam room for the Second Half of the Appointment. Due to limited space in the exam room, we ask that you limit the number of family and/or friends that accompany you to the OB ultrasound appointment.

PELVIC U/S FULL BLADDER   

Drink 32 oz of water and finishing 1 hour before the exam.

Your bladder will fill during the 1 hour before the exam.

This is a two part test - trans-abdominal with a full bladder and then a trans-vaginal with a probe after bladder emptying.
